Currently there are eleven main scopes in the Global ACI MRA: Testing, medical testing, calibration, management systems certification, persons certification, products certification, inspection, validation and verification, proficiency testing provision, reference material production and biobanking.
The combination of a Level 2 activity and the Level 3 relevant normative document is called a main scope of the MRA. Attestations made by conformity assessment bodies accredited by Global ACI MRA signatory accreditation bodies under a Level 3 scope are equally reliable in ensuring the competence, consistency and impartiality of conformity assessment activities.
Sub-scopes are divided into two categories (Level 4 and Level 5), as described in section 4 of Global ACI MRA-001: Multilateral Recognition Arrangement: Structure, Scope and Obligations.
Global ACI MRA Level 1 – ISO/IEC 17011, which specifies the criteria for the accreditation body, and additional requirements for accreditation body members in addition to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011.
Global ACI MRA Level 2 – Accreditation activities, in which the accreditation body has demonstrated competence to perform accreditation as specified by the normative documents listed in Level 3.
Global ACI MRA Level 3 – The generic normative documents used by the accreditation body to assess the competence of a conformity assessment body for each activity in Level 2.
Global ACI MRA Level 4 – Sector-specific normative documents which specify internationally recognised applications of a generic normative document listed in Level 3. The application documents are used by the accreditation body, in combination with the generic normative documents listed in Level 3, to assess the competence of a conformity assessment body in the relevant sector.
Global ACI MRA Level 5 – Includes the scope of accreditation of the conformity assessment body or Global ACI-endorsed conformity assessment normative documents used by the accredited conformity assessment body.
